The Rockliff Liberal Government is making Tasmanians wait longer than anyone else in Australia to receive the full amount from the Energy Bill Relief program.
People living in Western Australia will get the full amount of support by the end of this year, while people in New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, the ACT and the Northern Territory will have received their full payments in the current financial year.
Tasmanians, however, will have to wait until June 2025.
When rising power prices and the cost of living is so clearly damaging Tasmania’s economy – why is Jeremy Rockliff making Tasmanians wait a year longer than people in other states to get the help they need?
The Premier said it was better for Tasmanians if he withheld their payments – yet we’ve heard from countless Tasmanians who need as much help as they can get right now, not in two years’ time.
This appears to be just another Rockliff rip-off from the same Premier who won’t cap power prices for Tasmanians, despite his government promising to do so.
A Labor Government will cap power prices at 2.5 per cent a year for all households and small businesses and we will also re-establish the electricity rebate scheme that was in place in 2018.
Tasmanians deserve to pay Tasmanian prices for Tasmanian power and a Labor government will ensure this happens both now and in the future.
