Tasmanians will be the ones who suffer because of Jeremy Rockliff’s financial mismanagement.
After coming to power in 2014 with zero debt, a decade of Liberal mismanagement has left Tasmania in record debt and with a record budget deficit.
The Treasurer has made the situation worse by getting his GST estimate completely wrong, and yesterday Premier Rockliff told Tasmanians to brace for a tough budget – refusing to rule out cuts to health and housing.
In Parliament this morning, the Premier doubled down and refused to rule out imposing new taxes in the middle of a cost of living crisis.
At the same time, the Premier has made clear his number one priority is building a billion dollar stadium in Hobart.
The Premier has failed to be upfront about the cost of other projects at Macquarie Point, explain who will be responsible for cost overruns for his stadium, or be honest about whether he has failed to stand up for Tasmania and secure an exemption for the Federal funding for Macquarie Point.
But one thing is clear: Premier Rockliff’s mismanagement of the budget will hurt households and hold Tasmania back for years to come.
