A year on and the minority Liberal Government’s Gender Budget is still missing the mark.
Treasurer Michael Ferguson’s Budget has done little to assist women with the document showing that rates of family violence, housing distress and mental health are worsening.
Despite assurances from the government is would improve on its statement for this year’s budget, the document still lacks detail and has glaring gaps.
The document is high on gloss but light on detail, provides little understanding or meaningful action for women and has failed to provide any quality analysis of the outcomes for women and gender diverse Tasmanians.
The purpose of the document was to create a fiscal tool to drive economic and social equity and identify structural inequalities for women.
Instead, this government has chosen to make $300 million in departmental cuts to prop up a billion-dollar taxpayer-funded stadium rather than deliver on essential services for women.
