As Tasmanians prepare to vote this weekend, Labor is continuing to spread the word about the flagship GameChanger policy, which could change their lives.
GameChanger will tackle the housing crisis head on, allowing Tasmanians who don’t own a home to purchase one with zero deposit.
We’ve told Tasmanians that under a Labor government, if you can pay your rent, we’ll help you get a mortgage and the response we’ve received has been overwhelming.
After 10 years of Liberal Government neglect, Tasmania’s rental market is the least affordable in the country, and many were giving up hope of owning a home as they struggle to save for a deposit in a cost-of-living crisis.
The Liberals have had 10 years to come up with housing solutions, but instead thousands of families are on the waitlist for social housing, and thousands more are struggling to just pay their rent, never mind save for a deposit.
This is a crisis that requires innovative solutions and Labor’s plan will deliver, ensuring more houses are built, while the barriers to entry are lowers, so more people can get a foot in the door of their first home.
GameChanger will make a huge difference, along with our plan to build 2,000 new apartments, open up more land for development, and encourage the construction of 1,000 new dedicated rental properties, while continuing the government’s commitment to building 10,000 new social and government houses by 2032.
It’s time for a better future, and a Labor Government will deliver that and give Tasmanians the chance to have a permanent roof over their heads.
