A Rebecca White Labor Government will back local shipbuilder Incat to continue to put Tasmania on the map as a leader in innovative ship building.
Incat has been building ships in Tasmania for over 50 years, are currently employing hundreds of locals and leading the world in producing pure-electric lightweight zero-emission ferries.
Today at Incat’s shipbuilding yard in the heart of Hobart, Labor leader Rebecca White announced that a Labor government would support Incat’s future growth plans to boost its operations.
“Domestic manufacturing is hugely important for the Tasmanian economy, building skills in our workforce and supporting an export industry.
“Incat is putting Tasmania on the map as the home of innovative, low emissions shipbuilding and I am proud to see it building the world’s largest lightweight battery electric ship for a South American customer, right here in Hobart.
“That is why a Tasmanian Labor Government will provide $5.25 million to support Incat to scale up, increasing its workforce and its capacity to produce zero emissions Tassie-made ships.
“This contribution will also support training facilities, infrastructure and equipment so Incat can continue to build on its manufacturing operations in Tasmania”.
