Labor is proud to support our health workers by ruling out the introduction of a GP payroll tax – something Jeremy Rockliff’s Liberals have still failed to do.
In our first 100 days, we will ensure that a ruling is provided to exempt GP contractors from a payroll tax and if required, we will legislate to provide this exemption. This position has been welcomed by the Royal Australian College of GPs (RACGP).
We need to increase access to care so people can get the treatment they need, when they need it.
A GP payroll tax could see the cost of visiting a doctor increase by $15-20 which is simply too much in a cost-of-living crisis.
Jeremy Rockliff has all but confirmed he plans to slug Tasmanians with a GP tax that could result in the closure of some practices.
The Liberals are trying to trick Tasmanians by claiming there will be “no changes” to payroll tax – when they know that sticking with the status quo means a new tax.
Tasmanians are in a cost-of-living crisis and more Liberal taxes is the last thing they need.
It’s time for a better future. Labor has a plan to take urgent action on the cost of living, including categorically ruling out a new tax that puts up the cost of seeing a GP.
