Labor has unashamedly spent this election focusing squarely on the issues that matter to Tasmanians: health, housing and cost of living.
Labor’s election policy costings demonstrate that focus will also be good for the state budget, too.
We will return the budget to a small surplus by 2027-28 by focusing spending in the areas that matter.
That means less waste on consultants. Less waste on travel. And it means changing the fact the government currently spends four times as much on ads to promote itself as it does on childcare.
We’ll also be investing in services, like regional hospitals, that will save money elsewhere. If we can treat more patients close to where they live, that means less cost at our major hospitals.
Last time Labor was elected, under Jim Bacon, we were left with a record debt by the Liberals – and we paid it all off.
This time, after 10 years of the Liberals, Tasmania is back in record debt – and it looks like it’ll be Labor that’s left to clean up their mess once again.
Labor’s election costings are an important first step to repair the damage the Liberals have done to Tasmania’s finances.
