Premier Jeremy Rockliff has claimed Victorian businesses should come to Tasmania because of lower power prices.
The problem is that the most recent Tasmanian Economic Regulator Comparison of Electricity and Gas Prices Available to Small Customers in Australia Report showed Tasmanian Small Business Customers were paying more than those in Victoria.
The Premier should have been aware that because of his refusal to cap power prices, Tasmanian small businesses are seeing massive increases in bills.
Just last week, Brookfield Shed, a cafe at Margate, explained that it had gone into a payment plan because its power bills had gone up so much.
The Premier should immediately correct the record.
There is obviously not much good news to talk about in tomorrow’s budget if the Premier is having to resort to misleading statements about power prices the day before it is announced.
