Jeremy Rockliff is clearly running scared from his unpopular stadium – this time by requesting the team launch be delayed.
It’s clear the real reason he’s requested the delay is because he’s being told by Tasmanians just how badly his stadium deal stinks.
After focusing almost exclusively on a stadium for years while Tasmanians suffered in a cost of living crisis, he now wants Tasmanians to believe he has other priorities.
Today’s astonishing about-face follows his announcement he will cap spending on the stadium at $375 million, despite having already signed Tasmania up to pay for any cost overruns on a project that will clearly blow out.
One thing is clear: if the Liberals haven’t taken action on cost of living after 10 years, they never will, no matter how far the Premier tries to run from his stadium.
