Tasmanian Prices for Tasmanian Power.
When it comes to the skyrocketing price of energy bills, Labor has one simple belief – we should pay Tasmanian Prices for Tasmanian Power.
Labor will run the Hydro so Tasmanians pay Tasmanian prices for our power - that’s why Labor built the Hydro in the first place.
Tasmanian prices for Tasmanian power
Soaring power bills only add to the cost of living pressures facing Tasmanian families.
Labor will run the Hydro so Tasmanians pay Tasmanian prices for our power - that’s why Labor built the Hydro in the first place. Our plan will save around $400 on power for an average Tasmanian household.
Protecting Tasmanian businesses from soaring power prices
A Tasmanian Labor Government will provide power price certainty for contracted medium energy users in the state by placing a cap on the price paid by contracted customers.
Labor’s plan will protect businesses from future volatility in the National Electricity Market, give Tasmania an investment advantage over other states, and help rebuild our economy.
It provides certainty to business that they otherwise do not have.
Energy efficient rental homes
To take urgent action on the cost-of-living and provide relief for renters and people in social housing, Rebecca White and Labor will invest in making homes energy efficient.
Every Tasmanian knows how cold a winter night can be – often well below 10° Celsius.
Under Labor’s plan, we will:
- Incentivise landlords to make energy efficient upgrades to their rental properties.
- Provide $1,000 for upgraded or new heat pumps, insulation, solar panels, household battery storage systems, better glazing, lighting, hot water system or air conditioning.
- Provide $5 million to upgrade public and social housing.
- Save households more than $4500 over 10 years.
- Keep more homes in the long-term rental market.
- Ensure more households can take advantage of lower power prices under Labor.
Getting Tasmania out of Marinus
A Rebecca White Labor Government will reshape Hydro Tasmania through a new Ministerial Charter that focuses on growing Tasmania’s economy and supporting secure, well-paid jobs.
As part of our Tasmania First Plan, a Tasmanian Labor Government will exit the Marinus Link project and invest in building more renewable energy for our economy.
Tasmanian Labor acknowledges that Marinus is a critical project for Australia’s future and that 92% of the benefits will flow to mainland Australia. That’s why it should be a project led by the Australian Government. Marinus will still happen – but under Labor Tasmanians will not be paying for it.
Labor’s Plan will:
- Put Tasmanians first
- Invest more into more renewable energy projects for Tasmanian businesses and industry.
Doubling Tasmania's energy supply
A Rebecca White Labor Government will double Tasmania’s energy supply by building a new pipeline of renewable electricity assets right here in Tasmania.
We will create a new entity to manage Tasmania’s wind assets, and will partner with industry to build new wind farms here in Tasmania.
Th entity will be focused on growing Tasmania’s economy and supporting secure, well-paid jobs.
Labor’s Tasmania First Energy Plan will:
- Put Tasmanians first
- Drive new investment in wind power.
- Take minority equity positions in the early stages of the development of new wind farm projects.
- Bring Hydro’s existing wind assets under the new entity to create equity and expertise.
- Guarantee new transmission for every wind farm developer.
Use the savings from the Basslink Facility fee windfall to protect consumers and industrial users.
Scrap unfair Aurora charges for renters
To take urgent action on the cost-of-living and provide relief for young people and renters, Rebecca White and Labor will scrap charges for connecting and disconnecting basic meters on people who move house.
We will do this by scrapping the $100.97 charge to connect a basic meter, and the $64.09 charge for a final meter read.
Tasmanians are facing a cost of living crisis, and the Liberals say they won’t do anything about it.
By contrast, Labor’s plan will:
- Save $165 for Tasmanians moving house
- Help the 40% of Aurora customers who still have basic meters
- Deliver immediate cost of living relief
Labor has a plan for Tasmania.
