Simon Bailey
Labor Candidate for Franklin
Growing up in the working-class suburbs of Moonah instilled in Simon the need to look out for others who are not as fortunate as you and appreciate the opportunities provided to you.
As a husband and father of three teenagers, Simon knows the importance of having well funded public systems, such as education and health.
Since completing his apprenticeship at the Department of Main Roads, Simon has clocked up 36 years working in the Metals and Manufacturing sector across Australia as a tradesman, business owner, TAFE teacher and now state-wide education manager.
Simon's history of advocating for upgrades for Lauderdale Primary School when he was association chair for 6 years, and the work over 18 years fighting for funding and employees' rights in the TAFE sector with the Australian Education Union, show that he will go the distance and fight for what is right.
Over the past 10 years as a member and 5 years as Club Captain Simon has helped guide the Clifton Beach Surf Life Saving Club through a rebuild program. This rebuild has seen the club grow to over 410 members, be crowned the premier club in the state as and win both the senior and junior state surf championships in 2023.
Simon was nominated for the 2023 Clarence Citizen of the Year award, with the nomination seen as further proof that his work undertaken in the community was recognised by local leaders as a positive influence, achieving great community outcomes.
Simon is able and willing to lead from the front and advocate for changes at all levels of government which benefit the whole community.
