Susan Wallace
Labor Candidate for Clark
Susan is a Tasmanian celebrant, mediator and communications professional with a long history of fighting for a better, fairer Tasmania.
From being arrested at the 1988 Salamanca Market protests on Tasmanian Gay and Lesbian Rights, to taking a leadership role in the campaign against the Howard Government’s WorkChoices, Susan has been a passionate campaigner in the some of the great Labor struggles of recent generations.
As a leading advocate for Asbestos Disease sufferers Susan campaigned tirelessly for the establishment of the Tasmanian Asbestos Diseases Compensation Scheme and improved asbestos awareness in our community.
Like so many Tasmanians, she went to the mainland for greater career opportunities, establishing a long list of credits in film and television, helping create a number of ground-breaking documentaries and television series for SBS TV and directing several award-winning short films about the tough daily realities in our local communities.
These included a theatre project with women about the scourge of domestic violence in regional areas.
Susan has had a long-running love affair with Tasmania. Her grandfather taught her how to fly-fish when she was eight and she still fishes regularly.
She says we can make our island even better and fairer while protecting our Tassie lifestyle and our environment.
As a performer, playwright and filmmaker Susan is passionate about our creative industries and will work hard to ensure they are encouraged to thrive and the important contribution they make to the economy as well as the health and diversity of our community is properly recognised.
Susan believes Tasmania should be a place for everyone and champions greater diversity - in our community, in our parliament and in our leaders generally, whether in business or in public service.
Susan brings a vast range of experience, a love of this community and a home-grown passion to forward Labor’s mission to nurture Tassie’s growth, while protecting the great things that make our state unique.
