Tessa McLaughlin
Labor Candidate for Elwick
Tessa knows what’s it like to do it tough and will be a fighter for the people who’ve been left behind by the Liberals – particularly when it comes to housing.
Tessa is a fully qualified electrician who was trained through TasTAFE and has worked for Hydro. She wants to represent and help working people, and ensure Tasmanians have good, safe, well-paying jobs.
Renting a home in Lutana with her partner, Tessa knows what it's like to face the instability of rent increases and the challenges of entering the housing market.
She lives in Elwick, and has seen Glenorchy City Council rates increase while important services decline. Tessa believes the closure of the Glenorchy pool by the current council in particular has been appalling.
Tessa's life experiences have shaped her top priorities: rebuilding TAFE, addressing the crisis in our housing sector, and helping people with the cost of living. She wants to be a strong advocate for Elwick, to ensure no one in the community goes without the basics, and everyone gets the opportunity to reach their full potential.
Former member for Elwick, Josh Willie MP has endorsed Tessa as the candidate to replace him.
