Anti-development alliance team up to block urgently needed housing stock

31 July 2024

Labor wants to make Tasmania the best place to live, work, and raise a family.

We welcome the Jacqui Lambie Network joining Labor to oppose the disastrous Liberal-Green policy to freeze the University’s assets.

Labor has been clear about why we oppose the Bill – we support better education facilities and more housing.

Less clear, is why on earth are the Greens and the Liberals teaming up to block nearly 2,000 homes from being built in the middle of a housing crisis?

The Liberals set a target to build 10,000 new homes by 2032, but earlier this month, Housing Minister Felix Ellis was forced to admit that the Liberals had only built six homes in six years under the “fast-track” housing policy, while also confessing that they were counting vacant blocks of land towards their new build target.

Tasmania’s builders have spoken out – they want to get building more houses and creating jobs. The Liberal-Green anti-development alliance should get out of the way and let them.
