Anti-housing development Liberal-Lambie-Green alliance needs to rethink UTAS position

17 July 2024

New building activity data from the ABS proves the anti-development alliance comprised of the Liberals, Lambies and Greens are taking the wrong position by blocking the construction of nearly 2,000 new homes.

The data shows dwelling unit commencements are the lowest they have been in a decade, and just half the number they were only three years ago.

It’s completely unacceptable that in the middle of housing crisis, with building activity at decade lows, the Liberal-Lambie Coalition and their anti-development allies the Greens will stand in the way of a project that will deliver nearly 2,000 new houses for the state.

The city move is well underway, the Sandy Bay campus is sitting mostly vacant and unused, UTAS want to build a state-of-the-art $500 million science and technology facility and provide 2,000 new homes to our mix.

It’s shameful that the Government’s anti-development alliance plans to block a project that will build 2,000 new homes and deliver a new state of the art science and technology facility, creating thousands of construction jobs.
