There are only six sitting days remaining for Jeremy Rockliff to deliver on a range of promises made during the election.
The Liberals pledged a number of commitments which require legislation to be tabled in their first 100 days of office – a milestone which expires on July 20.
With only two sitting weeks before then, the pressure is on for them to stay true to their word.
The promises which require legislation to be tabled in the next six sitting days include:
- Allow Hydro to build or invest in new hydro, wind and solar projects
- Establish Renewable Energy Zones
- Update the Tasmanian Development Act to allow investments of up to $35m
- Remove barriers that prevent farmers from providing housing to workers (RTA)
- Remove restrictions preventing development of housing on agricultural land
- Enable agritourism to be recognised as a permitted use on agricultural land without needing a DA
With Tasmania already shedding 5,000 jobs since Jeremy Rockliff’s government went into minority, and the economy flatlining, delivering on these commitments couldn’t be more important.
There’s also the matter of the Premier’s pets in rentals policy, which was famously criticised by now Minister Abetz on election night – who said there needed to be a rethink following the historic 12 per cent swing against the Liberals. Will the promise to introduce that in the first 100 days be broken too?
Tasmanian Labor stands for well-paid, safe, secure jobs and we will continue to fight for them while holding the Liberals to account for the promises they have made.
