Company annual reports show that in the same year TT-Line and TasPorts presided over the biggest infrastructure stuff-up in Tasmanian history, Premier Jeremy Rockliff has given out half a million dollars’ worth of bonuses to the people responsible.
This is despite him telling Parliament on 19 September that:
“I am advised by the Chair that the TasPorts board is considering whether to provide management with additional remuneration this year. The government has not yet received a request. I am advised by the Chair of TasPorts, and this has just come to me, that I will receive a formal request shortly. I want to be clear that I will not be approving any request should it be received, because we have to get the job done.”
The TasPorts CEO, who has played a big role in the Spirits saga, was paid a $48,000 bonus. TasPorts executives were paid $190,000 in bonuses in total, while senior management at ferry operator TT-Line were awarded $274,000 in bonuses.
Premier Rockliff has said on numerous occasions that he’s taking control, but he’s completely lost the plot.
Imagine how much they would have been awarded if they actually managed to build a berth!
This shows that our GBEs are in desperate need of overhaul, and that’s why Labor is proposing the biggest shake-up to our government businesses in 30 years.
Labor’s plan will start the work of getting our government businesses back on track and delivering once again for Tasmanian jobs and the economy.
