The Greens have confirmed that they do not support the construction of nearly 2,000 new homes and thousands of jobs by doubling down on their support for the Liberals’ anti-development UTAS legislation.
Vica Bayley said that The Greens believe that “Tasmania’s only university must be nation-leading in its academic outcomes, educational experience for students and accountability to the state.”
He couldn’t explain how freezing UTAS’ Sandy Bay assets and blocking one of the state’s biggest housing projects would help achieve that.
It’s hard to see what The Greens are advocating for. The city move is already happening, and all Jeremy Rockliff’s legislation will do is block 2,000 houses from being built while leaving the university unable to fund a world-leading $500 million STEM facility.
What do the Federal Greens think of their state colleagues blocking housing that we desperately need?
Labor supports safe, secure, well-paid jobs, Labor supports building more houses and Labor supports investing in education to help deliver the economic future Tasmania deserves.
