Tasmanian Labor stands for jobs.
I'm from the west coast, and I know how much regional industries like aquaculture mean to the communities they operate in.
The report from the University of Tasmania's Institute of Marine and Antarctic Studies shows the oxygenation program has been even more successful than anticipated, has had no adverse side effects, and appears to be a way to entirely offset any impact the aquaculture industry has on water oxygen levels.
It's unequivocal proof a win-win is achievable and shows continued investment can mean a strong aquaculture industry and a healthy harbour environment.
The salmon industry provides safe, secure, well-paid jobs, and underpin the success of many other businesses too.
I'm not going to stand by and let anyone in Canberra shut down Tasmanian industries and jobs - whether they're Labor or Liberals - particularly when the latest independent science shows the steps being taken to improve the harbour's health are working.
I won't support or accept any decision to shut this industry down.
I've been doing everything I can to ensure Federal Labor hears the message being sent from workers, their union, Mayor Shane Pitt, and all the businesses who depend on the aquaculture industry.
I hope now they also hear the message coming from the scientific community and the workers in salmon. This is a great, sustainable industry that needs to be supported - not shut down.
