Poor vacancy numbers show weakening jobs market

14 August 2024

Labor stands for safe, secure, well-paid jobs.

The latest Job Vacancy Report from Jobs and Skills Australia shows that Tasmania’s labour market continues to weaken, with fewer open roles on offer for those searching for jobs.

In July 2024, the number of online job ads decreased by nearly two percent for month, and over 13 per cent when compared to June 2023.

The downward trend is consistent with the ABC Job Vacancies series and is further evidence of a flatlining economy under the Liberal-Lambie coalition.

Since Jeremy Rockliff’s leadership sent his Government into minority, Tasmania has already shed 5,000 jobs, the economy is flatlining and Tasmanians are leaving the state in record numbers for better opportunities elsewhere.

Labor’s priority is making sure Tasmanians can find work in well-paid, safe, and secure jobs.

Shadow Treasurer
