Labor have been inundated with reports from community members about the number of potholes along the Murchison Highway.
The Premier and Minister for Infrastructure told an Estimates Hearing that 270 potholes were identified on the Murchison Highway as of 26 August. He claimed that 160 have been fixed as of last week.
There are reports of three to four cars being damaged on a daily basis. Tasmanians are rightly concerned because the Liberal minority government are doing very little to fix the problem.
The potholes are having a serious impact on west coast road users. They can’t afford to be buying new wheels and tyres every time they need to use the highway.
Residents who have been affected do not appreciate government spin saying Tasmanian roads are the best in the country, they just want their government to fix the potholes.
The Premier needs to outline his plan for fixing the crumbling road infrastructure across the west coast now that he is the Infrastructure Minister.
If he doesn’t step up and start providing some answers and delivering solutions, Tasmanians are going to rapidly lose confidence in another Infrastructure Minister.
