Tasmanian Labor welcomes the news that the Northern Heart Centre has secured funding from the Federal Labor Government.
We would like to thank the Albanese Government for stepping in to deliver the required funding, after the State Liberal Government failed to allocate a single cent to the project in their state budget.
Tasmania has the highest rates of heart disease and related conditions – 90% of which is preventable, but not without the vital services Tasmanians need.
The State Liberal Government didn’t budget a single cent for the project in this month’s budget – despite telling Tasmanians at the election that it would be wholly state funded.
Then they waited until budget day to ask the Federal Government to contribute.
Thankfully for Northern Tasmania, the Albanese Government have generously come up with the entire $120 million required for the project.
Now it’s up to Premier Rockliff and the Liberals to deliver the project on time, and on budget. They owe it to heart patients across Northern Tasmania who desperately need this service.
