Somehow, the management of the Spirits project has gotten even worse since Jeremy Rockliff took over from failed Infrastructure Minister Michael Ferguson.
Labor understands senior managers and executives at TasPorts have been offered a bonus payment if the upgrades to Berth 1 in Devonport are completed on time, and another if the works are completed ahead of schedule.
These are TasPorts senior managers and executives who are already very well paid by the taxpayers and are now being offered bonuses despite being part of the biggest infrastructure stuff up in Tasmanian history.
TasPorts are a big part of the reason why the Government is now spending more than $50 million on a temporary fix at Berth 1. They failed to work with TT-Line to deliver the permanent wharf upgrades at Berth 3 that now means the new ships when they arrive will have nowhere to berth.
All up, the project is five years late, $500 million over budget and costing our tourism operators half a billion dollars a year.
Jeremy Rockliff’s minority government has completely lost the plot. Haven’t Tasmanians already paid enough for this debacle?
