Tasmanian Labor stands for jobs. Our focus is on the economy and providing stability and certainty for businesses and workers.
When I became leader, I said Labor would act responsibly and sensibly in a challenging Parliament. We will continue to do that.
This political instability is entirely Jeremy Rockliff’s mess. He took Tasmania to an election more than a year early saying it was about restoring stability and certainty. He failed to deliver and will now need to negotiate with even more cross benchers.
Jeremy Rockliff and Rosalie Woodruff are the two cheerleaders for minority government. But it has been a disastrous performance.
Minority Governments, especially around a failing government, are bad for our economy and bad for jobs. We are seeing that with 5,000 jobs lost since Jeremy Rockliff first took the state into minority.
The biggest problem is that Jeremy Rockliff’s minority government is failing. How can anyone be expected to have confidence in a government that keeps failing to deliver? When it has broken the budget? When it is trashing public services?
Jeremy is a nice guy, but this is getting ridiculous. His agreement with John Tucker and Lara Alexander lasted a bit over six months. His agreement with the Jacqui Lambie Network lasted four months. Tasmania is not even due for the last election yet and the Premier’s Liberal Lambie Coalition has already imploded.
The only way Jeremy Rockliff is going to regain confidence in the Parliament and the community is if his government stops fighting with itself and starts delivering for Tasmanians.
