Saxon O'Donnell
Candidate for Franklin

When Saxon was six, he remembers sitting in front of the TV while his parents had Parliament on. He didn’t know who the people were or what they were arguing about but the shouting and finger-pointing stuck with me. It was only years later, with his dad serving in the military and hearing stories from my great-grandfather, a World War II veteran, that he began to understand what those arguments were really about. Decisions made in that chamber could mean war or peace. Security or hardship. Lives changed or lost.
Growing up in a Defence family, moving across countries and states, Saxon saw firsthand how much politics affects everyday people and how often governments forget that. That’s why he joined Labor. Because time and again, it’s Labor that invests in health, education and people, while others cut them back.
So many of us have watched services shrink, seen families struggle, or had to step in when the system failed someone we care about. Labor believes in fairness, in looking out for each other, and in building a country where your background doesn’t hold you back.
Right now, the stakes couldn’t be higher. We’re facing a cost of living crisis. Our public services are stretched. And too many people in politics still treat government like a game instead of a responsibility.
But we have a choice. We can let that continue or we can stand up, together, and build something better. Saxon is here because he believes in the power of people to change things. He believes in a politics that listens, includes, and delivers. And he believes that if we act — if we organise, we can build a future that reflects our values, not just the interests of the few.
