Bring the Spirits home

The petition of the undersigned Citizens of Tasmania draws to the attention of the House that:

  • The new Spirit of Tasmania IV ship is currently being berthed in Scotland at a cost of $47,000 per week because the port infrastructure in Devonport is not ready.

  • Despite claims from the Government that the ship is being kept overseas in order to lease it out, the TT-Line Chair has admitted there is "not a strong likelihood" that will happen.

  • The Spirits of Tasmania belong to the Tasmanian people, and mothballing the new ships overseas for years is not in the best interests of Tasmania.

Your petitioners request the House to call upon the Government to bring the new Spirits home to Tasmania as soon as possible.
