$100k down the drain already, time to bring our Spirits home

18 December 2024

Premier Rockliff has now spent more than $100,000 of Tasmanian taxpayer’s money to hide Spirit IV in Scotland.

The Premier needs to cut his losses, do the right thing, and bring the Spirits home now. How much more taxpayer money does he want to waste on this PR exercise?

TT-Line Interim Chair Damien Bugg KC during government business enterprise hearings made it clear that the chances of Spirit IV being leased out were unlikely.

It doesn’t make sense to spend at least $50,000 per week keeping Spirit IV in Scotland. Tasmanians still don’t know the complete costs.

The best place for Tasmania’s new Spirits is in Tasmania. They’ll be safe, we can complete the local fit out, support local jobs and make sure they’re ready to go as soon as the berth is.

Tasmanians can sign Labor’s petition to bring the Spirits home here.
