Business confidence remains at rock bottom under Rockliff

29 January 2025

Yet another report has shown Tasmania has the worst business confidence in the nation under Jeremy Rockliff’s minority Liberal government.

The NAB monthly business survey shows Tasmania remained in last place for business confidence for the second consecutive month in the wake of the Rockliff minority government’s disastrous handling of the Spirits fiasco.

Tasmania’s peak business body the TCCI famously said that it will be difficult to trust this government again after the Spirits saga, and businesses clearly agree with confidence taking a hit.

Two reports released by two different banks this week have now highlighted the same thing; the Rockliff minority government is bad for jobs, and bad for the economy.

More jobs have been lost since Premier Rockliff took his government into minority than were lost during COVID. Since May 2023, 8,700 Tasmanian jobs have been lost with a thousand of those vanishing in the last two months alone.

Labor’s priority is making sure Tasmanians can find work in well-paid, safe, and secure jobs. We want to see Tasmania be the easiest place to do business so that more job opportunities can be created for Tasmanians.
