Community services pushed to breaking point after 13 years of Liberal waste

Tasmanian Labor is calling on the Rockliff Government to make community services a priority of Government, before more vulnerable Tasmanians are turned away.

TasCOSS’ Pulse Check is a warning siren for Tasmania’s community services sector. When six in 10 organisations are turning people away because they lack resources, the system is already failing people who need help. 

Community services need a sustainable funding model, not short-term contracts and indexation that falls behind the real cost of delivering support.

Every dollar the Government fails to invest early will turn up later, and at far greater cost – in child safety, hospitals, homelessness services, police stations and the justice system.

Under Eric Abetz as Treasurer, vulnerable Tasmanians and the community services sector are paying the price for 13 years of Liberal neglect and waste.
