Duigan exposed leaving out tens-of-millions worth of High Performance Centre costs

19 May 2025

Minister Nick Duigan has been exposed leaving out tens-of-millions-of-dollars’ worth of costs from yesterday’s admission that the AFL High Performance Centre in Kingston had blown out by $45 million.

Kingborough Mayor Paula Wreidt told ABC Radio that negotiations to bring the High Performance Centre to Kingston included a commitment from the State Government to also fund the relocation of existing sports facilities and other infrastructure upgrades including creating new ovals, relocating or rebuilding local grassroot club facilities and even building a new road.

So the question for the Liberals today is, how much is the full project going to cost?

Tasmanians won’t forget that this is the same chaotic and incompetent government that oversaw a $400 million blowout to the Spirit of Tasmania Berth 3 project in Devonport.

Labor supports the High Performance Centre, just like we support the Spirit of Tasmania replacement project. What we don’t support is the way the Minority Rockliff Government is bungling the delivery.

The Minority Liberal Government needs to come clean today about how much more Tasmanians will have to pay for their bungled approach to the High Performance Centre.

Shadow Minister for Infrastructure
