Ellis a national embarrassment

By Jen Butler MP Shadow Minister for Police, Fire & Emergency Services

21 July 2026

Jen Butler MP
Shadow Minister for Police, Fire & Emergency Services

Ellis a national embarrassment

Tasmania’s Police Minister has become a national embarrassment.

Last night, Minister Ellis’ appalling behaviour towards a journalist reached a national audience, along with his non-apology.

Ellis’ attempts to incite hatred towards the journalist for doing their job is the latest in a long list of highly questionable actions which includes ignoring the advice of his Police Commissioner and naming the perpetrator of the Port Arthur massacre.

Felix Ellis’ number one priority as the Minister for Police should be community safety, but his actions time and time again show the complete opposite.

Tasmanians are witnessing a Minister being controlled by the powerful gun lobby, and the Premier needs to rein him in.
