Tasmania has the best hydro and wind resource in the nation. But we need to take urgent action on the projects that will unlock that potential.

Projects like Abel Energy’s Green Methanol plant at Bell Bay have the potential to create hundreds of jobs and lock in the future of manufacturing in the state. These would be highly skilled, well paid, safe and secure jobs.

I have handed over our energy portfolio to Janie Finlay because I know she gets it. She understands that our economy can’t grow without more power. 

The latest CommSec State of the States report shows our economy continues to slow and young people are leaving our state in droves. 

Significantly, Tasmania recorded negative annual employment growth at a time when every other state or territory recorded an increase (p13).

With our economy flatlining, we can’t afford to let golden opportunities slip.

We need a government that’s finally going to start delivering - not just talking.
