Even Angus Taylor can't defend Jeremy Rockliff's Bell Bay failure

By Janie Finlay MP Deputy Labor Leader Shadow Minister for Energy & Renewables

24 July 2026

Janie Finlay MP
Deputy Labor Leader
Shadow Minister for Energy & Renewables

Even Angus Taylor can't defend Jeremy Rockliff's Bell Bay failure

Premier Rockliff’s own federal Liberal leader, Angus Taylor has blown apart his excuses on Bell Bay.

Standing at Bell Bay today, Angus Taylor said the State Government had to be part of securing the future of Bell Bay Aluminium.

When asked about Liberty Bell Bay, he said the same applied.

So much for Premier Rockliff blaming Canberra, hiding behind Hydro, and pretending there's nothing more the State could do.

More than 200 workers have lost their jobs and Tasmanians could be left with a bill of more than $224 million.

Now Bell Bay Aluminium is under pressure while the same Premier, the same Energy Minister and the same broken energy policy remain in place.

Premier Rockliff needs to stop making excuses and start doing his job before Tasmania loses another major employer.

Angus Taylor has told him to step up. The only question now is whether Premier Rockliff is actually listening.
