Further Liberty Bell Bay support welcome

Tasmanian Labor welcomes today’s announcement of further support for workers at Liberty Bell Bay.

The workers, their families, the businesses that rely on work from the smelter and the broader George Town community are bravely battling through a period of tremendous uncertainty.

This support matters but the only way to truly secure jobs, honour payments owed to contractors, and protect the critical supply chain that depends on Bell Bay is through a successful sale of the smelter. That’s what gives workers certainty, keeps local businesses afloat, and underpins confidence right across Northern Tasmania.

Bell Bay isn’t just a local employer, it is a cornerstone of Tasmania’s industrial future, with flow-on impacts felt right across the state.

Labor has had their backs throughout this uncertainty, and we won’t stop until a positive outcome is reached.

We urge all parties involved to continue this cooperation until the future of the smelter is locked in because jobs, local businesses and entire communities depend on us getting this right.
