Get a grip, Minister

30 July 2024

Upon learning RHH nurses were required to plug severe staffing shortages at the LGH, Health Minister Guy Barnett told dedicated, hard-working nurses that they needed to ‘get a grip’.

The Minister doubled down and said it was ‘totally acceptable’ for our health system to operate in that manner.

It is also completely reasonable for Tasmanians, especially patients and staff in the health system, to expect answers as to whether their government is going to cut jobs in health, to find out whether budgets, jobs, or service delivery were going to be cut.

Perhaps Guy Barnett should take his own advice.

On the other hand, and totally unacceptable – is Jeremy Rockliff and Guy Barnett’s refusal to come clean and be upfront with Tasmanians.

Labor will continue to hold the Liberal-Lambie Coalition accountable for their budget cuts.

Ella Haddad MP
Shadow Minister for Health
