In keeping with the secretive way the Liberals have withheld information throughout Premier Rockliff’s ferry fiasco, today’s Regular Spirit of Tasmania Replacement Update has some glaring omissions.
The previous update said “on going charges for ancillary services are accrued on a ‘do and charge’ basis and will be made public when finalised”, however today’s update contains no mention of them whatsoever.
Surely now – more than six weeks into Spirit IV’s Scottish sojourn – there are known ancillary costs that could be declared. In the interests of transparency, the Government should provide them.
The update also fails to mention the status of the review into TT-Line’s finances, which was supposed to be completed imminently after it was revealed that TT-Line had been operating in breach of their debt agreement with TasCorp for more than six months and were on track to exceed their current borrowing limit of $1 billion.
However the Liberals try and spin it, keeping the Spirits in Scotland is costing Tasmania dearly.
It’s time to bring the Spirits home where we can finish the fit out, keep them safe and get them ready for service.
