Labor has been crystal clear about our strong position in opposition to the Government’s proposed legislation that would block the construction of 2,000 new homes and funding for a $500 million STEM facility – the Greens MPs have been divided.

Vica Bayley issued a puzzling statement supporting the Liberals’ anti-development UTAS legislation.

But we know Helen Burnet doesn’t agree – in fact she ran for Hobart City Council in 2022 pledging to support the UTAS city move.

As Deputy Mayor, and supporter of the move, Ms Burnet said that she wanted “to see an improvement in Hobart’s CBD” and saw “the opportunity for UTAS to lead in providing developer contributions to the public realm.”

She also said, “If the Sandy Bay campus is no longer used as an academic institution, it should be a model of sustainability and innovation.”

With questions about how the Federal Greens feel about blocking the construction of 2,000 new homes still unanswered, it is clear the Greens are enormously divided on this issue.
