Reports today of further unrest within the Liberal Party is bad news for the economy, the state’s finances and the health system.
Once again, the government’s most senior Ministers—including the Premier, the Treasurer and the Health Minister—have been distracted from their jobs as they try to negotiate a “peace plan” to resolve the infighting over the membership of Liberal Party stalwart Brendan Blomeley.
Every minute Jeremy Rockliff and his senior Ministers spend on this bitter dispute is a minute they’re not working on behalf of Tasmanians.
And every day this sorry saga drags on, business confidence suffers. A minority government that’s beholden to the chaotic JLN and at war with itself simply can’t be relied on by the business community.
After months of Liberal infighting playing out in the papers, and now apparently spreading into the electorate of Lyons, it’s time for Jeremy Rockliff to step up, show some leadership and resolve this mess before it ends in a messy court proceeding, so he and his senior Ministers can focus on things that actually matter to Tasmanians.
