Correction to media release published 20 June 2025

25 November 2025

The following correction is offered in relation to the media release published on 20 June 2025.

It is recognised that Mr Ewington has expressed concerns regarding wording of the press release issued on 20 June 2025.

In that release it was alleged that Mr Ewington was “sacked” as a Liberal Party candidate due to attending an anti-lockdown rally in Melbourne.

It is acknowledged that Mr Ewington was not “sacked” as a candidate for the Liberal Party, but rather that he “resigned from running as a candidate” following a discussion with then-Premier Peter Gutwein due to “irreconcilable differences” on policy related to COVID and a "fundamental difference of opinion in terms of the value of lockdowns” (ABC, 31 March 2025).

Secondly, it is acknowledged that Mr Ewington did not “attend" the anti-lockdown rally, but rather he filmed a section of the rally as it passed him (Dean Ewington, 31 March 2025).

This statement is issued as apology and correction for the original assumptions made above.
