Gutwein’s vote of no confidence in Rockliff’s ability to deliver

08 January 2025

Peter Gutwein has delivered a withering assessment of his former deputy Jeremy Rockliff’s ability to deliver the Macquarie Point stadium.

"Blind Freddy can see that the stadium won't be built by 2028," Mr Gutwein told the Examiner.

Given what we’ve seen from the Liberals with the Spirits of Tasmania fiasco, Mr Gutwein’s vote of no confidence comes as little surprise.

The Spirits debacle has seen Jeremy Rockliff’s minority Liberal government lose the trust of the business community, and now the former Premier is piling on too.

Jeremy Rockliff has staked his leadership on delivering the stadium on time and on budget. He can’t afford to stuff this up like he stuffed up the Spirits, and Tasmania can’t afford him to either.
