Home warranty insurance delay leaves Tasmanians in the lurch

14 April 2024

Tasmanians affected by the collapse of the local GJ Gardner Homes have been left in the lurch by Jeremy Rockliff’s chaotic minority Liberal Government.

Last year, the Parliament passed the Home Warranty Insurance Amendments Bill.

Almost a year later and it still hasn’t been proclaimed, with the Rockliff minority government solely focussed on its own chaos over that time, at the expense of Tasmanians.

Today, I am joined by Lee Gillam who is one of many Tasmanians who could have been better protected if the government had prioritised this legislation, as was promised to the parliament.

Until Home Warranty Insurance is locked in by this chaotic government, we will see further insolvencies, further consumer harm, and further irresponsible cost to Tasmanian taxpayers.

Tasmanians who have been affected by the lack of action by this government deserve assistance but so far Jeremy Rockliff’s Liberals have been nowhere to be seen.
