Housing Connect Portal blowout adds to 13 years of Liberal waste

By Meg Brown MP - Shadow Minister for Housing

Housing Connect Portal blowout adds to 13 years of Liberal waste

While Labor welcomes the Housing Connect Portal finally going live, the project is the latest in a long line of cost blowouts adding to 13 years of Liberal waste.

Questions asked by Labor at Estimates reveal the Portal is over two years late, and comes with a $4 million blowout.

The portal, which was first expected to be live in June 2024, had an original budget allocation of $2.148 million.

The latest estimated cost was $6.117 million, and Minister Vincent owes Tasmanians an update on the final number today.

After 13 years of Liberal waste, Premier Rockliff put Eric Abetz in charge of cutting jobs and services to pay for it.

With the housing waitlist the longest it’s ever been, Eric Abetz’ cuts will only take away from the Government’s ability to help vulnerable Tasmanians who need it most.
