Labor is back in Tasmania

04 May 2025

Labor's election victories in Tasmania are a credit to Prime Minister Anthony Albanese's vision for our country, support for our regional economy and the essential public services Tasmanians rely on.

I congratulate the Prime Minister on delivering one of the best electoral results in Australian history. I also acknowledge the incredible candidates who brought home that result locally: Julie Collins, Heidi Heck, Rebecca White, Jess Teesdale and Anne Urquhart.

The swing towards Labor of 9.6 per cent – more than double the national swing – is a result of not just a nationwide movement but also of a Tasmanian Labor Party that is united, resurgent, and ready to deliver for our state.

The massive swing in Braddon reflects conversations I have been having since Labor first exposed the Spirits of Tasmania debacle. Tasmanians know they can't trust the Liberals to deliver and know they can always trust Labor to stand up for jobs.

Tasmanian Labor has changed, and we're back as the party that delivers for jobs and our economy.

I can't wait to work with our new Federal Members of Parliament as we stand up against the Liberals' privatisation push, share our plan to clean up the mess the Liberals have created, and outline our vision for Tasmania's future.
