Liberal coalition partners threaten salmon industry jobs

09 May 2024

Jeremy Rockliff’s coalition partners have today launched an extraordinary attack on Tasmania’s salmon industry and the thousands of people it employs.

The JLN and other crossbenchers have demanded the Premier take “immediate action” to restrict salmon farming on the west coast, and accused the independent EPA of bias.

Jeremy Rockliff told Tasmanians before the election he wouldn’t do any deals on policy. Now, less than a month into his new minority government, his coalition partners are already threatening the jobs of thousands of Tasmanians.

Who is in charge here?

After overseeing the loss of 5,000 jobs since going into minority last year, Jeremy Rockliff now appears so focussed on holding his coalition together that he’s willing to let the JLN put even more regional jobs at risk.

Labor stands for safe, secure, well-paying jobs, and we won’t sit idle while Jeremy Rockliff’s coalition partners try to shut down salmon farming.
