Today’s decision to finally scrap the Spirits fuel surcharge is a win for the Tasmanian economy, businesses, and local travellers.
With other ferry operators across the nation removing their own surcharges months ago, Tasmanians were rightly concerned that TT-Line were keeping the fuel surcharge going to prop the company up.
Tasmania’s government businesses are supposed to work for Tasmanians, yet after being taken to the brink by the Liberals, TT-Line was making Tasmanians pay instead.
Businesses that rely on the visitor economy were already battling the challenges from the war in the Middle East. The further disincentive to travel that the surcharge was providing made things even harder.
The Ferries Fiasco is the biggest example of waste from the Liberals’ wasteful 13 years in Government.
With Eric Abetz cutting jobs and services, Tasmanians have already paid enough for this disaster. It’s welcome news they won’t have to pay the surcharge anymore.
