Lion calls last drinks on Boag's, but fight not over

The Boag’s name only means something because of Tasmania.

Boag’s workers and the United Workers Union have fought hard, and they deserve honesty, certainty and respect. It’s disappointing that they appear to have been given false hope about the future of their jobs, their brewery and the brand they built.

If Lion is closing the brewery, it should at least do the right thing by the people who built it and give workers access to the reskilling fund now, so workers can train and be job-ready when the gates close.

Tasmanians would expect that workers are supported for an extra four weeks, so this gets them and their families through until Christmas.

Lion has said it would consider a market-value offer for the brewery, and potentially the brand, ahead of November.

Labor is calling on Lion to keep the door open and work constructively with any serious buyer.

You can't take an icon out of the state that made it and expect people to just accept it. Boag’s belongs in Tasmania.
