No comment, no leg to stand on

01 June 2026

Josh Willie MP

Labor Leader

1 June 2026

No comment, no leg to stand on

There’s only one reason Premier Rockliff refused to answer any questions about Madeleine Ogilvie misleading Parliament in Budget Estimates today.

It’s because he and his Cabinet are guilty as sin for trying to cover up his former Minister’s actions.

The fact is Madeleine Ogilvie misled Parliament under oath in November. The Premier knew it and did nothing about it.

Treasurer Abetz today confirmed to Parliament that the Cabinet decision to start legal action and have taxpayer’s money pay for it pre-dated him being in Cabinet.

That means the Cabinet decision was made prior to 2024, long before Ms Ogilvie misled parliament.

The Premier and every Cabinet Minister was aware she misled parliament in November 2025.

And most concerningly, they all covered it up until they were caught out.

Ms Ogilvie herself has confirmed she was party to a Supreme Court matter, and it has been established that she has received taxpayer funded legal assistance. There is no legal basis for Premier Rockliff to refuse to answer questions about timelines relating to these established facts.

Tasmanians deserve far better from their Government.
