Jeremy Rockliff thinks he can put Tasmania through another election because his position in the government is more important than the government continuing without him.
I made it clear in the parliamentary debate that I respected Jeremy's contribution even though he has lost his way as Premier. It is sad to watch his own ego and desperate desire to do and say anything to cling to power be more important than accepting the reality of parliament passing no confidence in him as Premier and doing the honourable thing and resigning.
He couldn’t make the last parliament work, which ended in an early election. He’s lost the confidence of this parliament, business groups, and key figures within his own party.
Why does he think he can do it all again?
It’s becoming clear that all he cares about is staying Premier, even if it sends Tasmanians to another early election. If that damages business confidence, it is entirely on him and his own poor decision making.
Tasmania needs change and if the Parliamentary Liberal Party allows him to call an early election, Labor stands ready to deliver the change.
