Parliament condemns lame-duck Premier’s privatisation plans

02 April 2025

When Jeremy Rockliff announced his plans for a fire-sale of Tasmania’s state-owned assets to pay back the debt his government has created, Labor said we’d use every parliamentary mechanism available to stop him.

The House of Assembly has passed a motion which confirms the House does not support the Premier’s policy to privatise assets built and owned by Tasmanians.

Following last night’s Legislative Council vote along the same lines, it sends a strong message to Jeremy Rockliff that his privatisation agenda is doomed and that he's a lame duck Premier.

This privatisation agenda would lead to reduced services, increased costs, and would mean profits go to the private sector instead of back into schools and hospitals.
