Tasmanians deserve to know what jobs and services Treasurer Abetz is cutting to achieve the $1.47 billion “operational efficiencies” he laid bare in the budget.

Now, thanks to Labor, they will. 

The 2026-27 State Budget shows $1.47 billion worth of cuts to hospitals, schools, and police, and a reduction of at least 1,700 positions. It contained next to no detail about what they are or how they will impact Tasmanians.

Four months on, the lack of confirmed information about how these cuts will impact Tasmanians is causing distress in all areas of the public service, and the community more broadly.

A motion moved by Labor in the House today has ordered Treasurer Abetz to provide a comprehensive account of which jobs, services, programs, and contracts are being cut.

Premier Rockliff has put Treasurer Abetz in charge of cutting jobs and services to pay for 13 years of Liberal waste – the least they can do is be upfront about the consequences of this decision.
